My devotional for today focused on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. There is a time for everything. A time to live, die, laugh, weep, sing and dance. A time to scatter and gather….seasons. There is a cadence to these words. A rhythm . Perhaps it is the harmonies etched into the memory bank of my mind where I hear the exquisite harmony and perfect blend in song of these words set to music . A time to plant and uproot. A time to search and to give up.a time to be silent and to speak.

My eyes fill and my throat tightens unexpectedly as I again consider the words of this long ago scribe.

Lord, what season am I in? Did I miss the season of dance? Why do I wrestle with my emotions and how is it I have read this verse many times before and they were only words? What is different today? I am caught off guard.

I have questions of you God. I long for life to be the fantasy of one who has not yet been jaded by the reality of living in a fallen world. I see hurt, pain and struggle. I am sometimes angry and afraid and it is hard to trust. I know you are good God- I know I am weak and a mess.

I choose to fix my eyes on you and release my longing to understand the ebb and flow of the season and the days. I ask you Lord for grace to give this to you….. even for this moment.

a time for everything. a season.
Lord, that I would not remain a moment longer than you desire in any season.. even if I sometimes have to dance IN the darkness.

Ecclesiastes 3:1–8
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
